Apparently, we found the fastest way to make it rain.
Spend an entire day getting a baseball field ready.
We had a plan.
A little extra baseball on a Saturday afternoon. A pop-up clinic at Tippy. Some time on the diamond with ballplayers who love the game.
Simple enough, right?
Well, there was one little detail.
The weather.
We Had High Hopes
When we announced our October 10 clinic , we knew there was a chance of rain. But we were hopeful we’d be able to squeeze in an afternoon of baseball.
We even joked about it in the announcement:
Will gloves be popping or storms cracking?
We shall see!
Meanwhile, Drake, Wade, and Kent had been working hard to get Tippy ready. There had been weeds to pull, mowing to finish, a broken mower, and even a trip to Huntsville to borrow another one.
By the time the field was ready, we were more than ready for some baseball.
Mother Nature Had Other Plans
Unfortunately, the rain wasn’t interested in our plans.
With the field getting soaked and the weather refusing to cooperate, we had to cancel Saturday’s clinic.
Of course it rained.
Because apparently, all it takes to summon a good Alabama rain is a freshly prepared baseball field and an afternoon of baseball on the calendar.
You’re welcome, Alabama.
The Work Still Matters
The irony is hard to miss. The boys worked in dry, dusty dirt getting Tippy ready for players to take the field — only for the rain to have the final say.
But the rain does not erase the work.
And it certainly doesn’t erase the kindness of the people who helped make that work possible.
The Story Behind the Rainout
Before the rain came, there was plenty of hard work, a broken mower, some very generous friends, a road trip to Huntsville, and even a beautiful rainbow along the way.
We’ve shared that part of the adventure, along with photographs of the field preparation and Drake’s rainbow, in a separate story.

We’re disappointed we couldn’t spend Saturday afternoon doing what we love, but we’ll look forward to another opportunity to get together on the diamond.
For now, the gloves will have to wait, the field will have to dry, and we’ll keep an eye on those Alabama skies.
Baseball will be back.
Hopefully with a little less rain next time!
