The 2026 season began with a win at home. But before the Angels could take the field for their first game, there was another challenge to overcome: getting Tippy ready to play.

Before the First Pitch

It had been a cold, wet start to the baseball season. Games had already been canceled, and the day before our opener, the rain poured. By the time February 27 arrived, Tippy was soaked, and getting a game in was anything but a sure thing.

But Drake, Wade, and Kent went to work. They put in the time and effort to make the field playable so our Angels would have the chance to begin their season at home.

These photographs tell a part of opening night that the final score never could: the muddy infield, the field equipment, and the work that happened before the players ever lined up.

Opening Night at Last

By evening, it was bitterly cold. But the Angels finally got to do what they had been waiting to do: play baseball.

Fayetteville City came to Tippy for our first game of the entire 2026 season, and the Angels opened the year with a victory.

The photographs capture that opening-night feeling: the teams on the field, our boys together in uniform, and the excitement of beginning another season as HC Angels.

More Than a Win

We will remember the season-opening victory. But we also want to remember what it took to make that evening possible.

Thank you to Drake, Wade, and Kent for the hours of work behind the scenes. Their determination gave our Angels the opportunity to take the field when the weather had made that opportunity uncertain.

Sometimes the story of a baseball game begins long before the first pitch. On February 27, 2026, it began with a rain-soaked field, people willing to do the work, and a team ready to play. It ended with an opening-night win at Tippy.

There’s nothing quite like that first night back on the field. Fresh uniforms, fresh season, and a group of boys ready to represent their team and each other.
