Carrying It Forward: The 2025 HC Angels
Every HC Baseball team is special.
Every group leaves something behind. Every season adds another chapter to the story of HC Baseball.
But the 2025 Angels will always hold a place of their own.
They entered this season carrying something no team before them had ever been asked to carry.
Many of these players had been coached by Coach Clay. They had practice baseball under him, laughed with him, worked beside him, listened to him, and grown as a player with his voice somewhere around the field. Some had known him for years. Some had been part of HC for most of their baseball lives.
And then they had to come back to the field without him. Their hearts were broken. Ours were too. There was no pretending otherwise. But when it was time to play baseball again, these young men showed us exactly what Coach Clay had spent all those years building.
They showed up. They worked. They welcomed new players into a team that already shared years of memories and history. They made room for them. They taught them. They encouraged them. They helped them understand what it meant to wear HC over their hearts and Coach Clay on their sleeve.
They practiced hard and played hard. They competed with everything they had, but they did it with grace. They kept positive attitudes. They picked each other up after mistakes. They celebrated each other’s successes. They encouraged the guy beside them.
They laughed together. They worked together. They fought through hard innings together. And somewhere along the way, the bonds between them became something that could never be measured simply by wins and losses.
It was a beautiful thing to witness.
These players were no longer just boys Coach Clay had poured into. They stepped forward as young men and began pouring into one another.
That may be one of the greatest pieces of his legacy.
Because carrying something forward does not mean simply remembering it. It means living it. It means taking what someone gave you and giving it to the next person. It means holding yourself to the standard when the person who taught you that standard is no longer standing beside you.
And throughout this season, that is exactly what these young men did.
They represented HC with character. They represented their families well. They represented Coach Clay well.
And people noticed.
Not because the Angels demanded attention. Not because they told anyone what they had been through.
But because the way they treated one another, the way they competed, and the way they carried themselves spoke for them.
That is HC Baseball.
That is Building HERITAGE.
And then, after everything this season had already asked of them, they went to NACA and finished it together — undefeated, bringing home the 2025 National Championship.
Of course we are proud of the championship.
We will always celebrate the trophy, the wins, and the title these players earned.
But when we look back on the 2025 team, the championship will never be the only thing we remember.
We will remember their courage in coming back. Their loyalty to one another. Their willingness to welcome and mentor. Their laughter. Their encouragement. Their resilience. Their friendship.
And the way a group of young men with broken hearts chose to take everything Coach Clay had poured into them and carry it forward.
We know Coach Clay is proud of the baseball they played. But even more than that, he is proud of the young men they became.
